Contractor, born from Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria through the age of seven. She had already experienced a lot of travel and other cultures since a early age. She attended boarding schools at the age of 7 until 9 in London. Later, she and her family moved back home to Toronto (Canada) where they were raised for her entire life. Contractor was a classical ballet student in Toronto. Additionally, she excelled academically. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts which was a highly specialized high school where she was able to study more than just dance but also theatre. Contractor began her acting career at 16 after completing a total of 10 years of dance. When she completed high school, she received an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed the Master of Arts in Theatre. She was also a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor with a degree in sociology, having spent a year in university was invited to audition during an open call for Pericles, at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadain Canada] and was selected for the part. Her performance received rave reviews. her performance during the 92 performances that the play was voted"the best show of 2002" by Canadian critics in 2002. The conservatory in Stratford is home to eight males with four females, along with a couple of additional people to take a 20 weeks of crash courses. Contractor's place in the following stage season was securing and she won the role of Hermia.
